There are many early television shows that started life as radio shows during the Golden Age of Radio. Select one of these shows (from the options below) and compare/contrast a full episode of the radio show to a full television episode of the same show. In particular, discuss how both versions of the show handled sponsors, the cast, humor, and performance. What changes occur in the show when it becomes a visual series on television? What essentially remains the same about both shows? Speculate on how the early radio version informed the format and style of the television version.
Show options: Texaco Star Theater, The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show, The Goldbergs, or The Jack Benny Program. You will find radio and TV episodes of these shows through searches on Archive.org and (usually) YouTube. In order to narrow your search and keep the episodes relatively close in history for comparison, please only pick radio episodes that aired after 1940 and television episodes that aired before 1952.
NOTE: DO NOT take time to describe the plot of the shows UNLESS it is necessary for understanding and/or supporting your analysis. Please no plot for plot’s sake. It wastes your pages and will not be used towards your word count unless necessary for your analysis. Otherwise, just jump straight into the analysis and assume I alrealuvdy know or can look up the premise of your show.
