Pick one of the authors we have read ( Willa Cather, Kate Chopin, Stephen Crane, Sherwood Anderson, William Faulkner, F. Scott Fitzgerald, or Ernest Hemingway), and do some research into his/her biography. Once you have determined the theme (it always begins with theme) of the story or stories by that author we have read, ask yourself, “What in the author’s life story compels him/her to write on that theme.

If theme is what a story is about, then what compels the creation of this story about this theme?
This paper should be 3-5 pages, and will award up to 15 points. It must contain bibliographic citations reflective of research into the topic, in some appropriate style.
