Style – Does the author use a particular style that appeals to you? Style speaks to the overall shape, mood and atmosphere.

Voice – Is the author’s voice strong? Weak? What is the author’s tone?

Appeals –

? Ethos: Does the author seem credible/knowledgeable about their topic? What can you tell about their credibility/trustworthiness from this text, and how do they establish it?

? Pathos: Does the author attempt to persuade/convince their reader by appealing to a certain emotional reaction from their audience? If so, is it effective and relevant to their topic? Pathos is often communicated by using vivid descriptions, images, details and examples. Pay attention to word choice, image choice, metaphors and other stylistic features.

? Logos: Does the author use logic/reasoning and/or credible research to support their main argument(s)? What claims are they making, and are they using evidence and data to support these claims?
