The wonders of dough! I chose to talk about playdough because of how basic and excellent of a tool this can be. Playdough seems to be what every 4–5 or 45-year-old goes for in my play times, and rightly so! It stimulates the senses and sparks creativity. To play with when I was young was a rarity because if your mom was anything like mine, we did NOT have playdough in the house. Playdough can be used as a math and science lesson when a recipe is used to make the dough and the dough’s reaction when left out in the air. Imaginations can soar when preparing pretend mounds of spaghetti and meatballs for our pretend meal together! Sensory items like playdough can help bring tough subjects like math and science to life. I have seen it first hand.
I chose the childhood toy of building blocks. It’s a staple in a lot of people’s childhood including mine. The age range would probably be something like toddlerhood to about eight years old. This toy can help with counting, colors, and decision making. They can learn how to make structures without them falling over. It can also help with language development. Physically, it make the children lift and move blocks until they fall so their finger and hand strength develops.
