Video can be a powerful resource for learning. Advances in computers and the Internet have made it possible for almost anyone to produce and share their own video creations. Today’s computers and phones come with easy to use,. The process of engaging students in the Assignment can captivate and motivate students to learn more about the subjects they study. It can also promote collaborative learning, creative expression, and research, writing and critical thinking skills.

Assignment Parameters
<
Students will complete one major research project on a topic related to art from the time period and geographic region of this course that culminates in an online oral presentation in the form of assignment . Make sure that the video is public; if I can’t see it, I can’t grade it.
<
You must receive written confirmation from me regarding your choice of topic at least two weeks before the due date. This will take place via a Discussion Forum in Canvas.
<
Your topic can focus on a specific theme, be culture-specific, or look closely at the work of one artist. The topic should be focused enough so as to not be a general overview (We can easily look up an artist’s bio on Wikipedia, so don’t include that info.) but instead should include a close analysis of one or two specific artworks. The topic covered and should not be something we discuss in detail in class; instead, it should go deeper into a focused research area. Example topics: Animal Imagery in Cave Painting, Female Artists in the Ancient World, The Minoan Snake Goddess, Greek Sculpture and Sexual Mores in Ancient Greek Art, Roman Painting, Theodora: Patron of the Arts, A Closer Look at Byzantine Icons, Anglo-Saxon Jewelry, Flying Buttresses and the Gothic Cathedral, Road to Redemption: Romanesque Architecture Along the Camino de Santiago, etc. Please do not choose one of these topics but instead find your own passion.
<
Feel free to be creative in both your choice of topic and in the way you want to present your research. I’ve had students create songs, animations, live action films; the sky is the limit.

Required Resources
<
Six total sources are required.
<
This project takes the place of a formal research paper, and therefore, significant research should be involved, especially in the sense that you should not simply regurgitate what is contained in the textbook or on Wikipedia. Sources of research may include books (go to the library), academic journals, reputable websites (avoid personal blogs and try museum websites, for example), and other online sources (documentary videos or content from smarthistory.org). Always consider the source when evaluating the legitimacy of the information you are reviewing. This research should then be presented in an organized manner . Your sources should be included at the end of the assignment .
<
Three Internet Sources: valid online sources only
<
Internet sources: Wikipedia is a great place to get a thorough overview of your topic––start there! However, you must reference at least three other Internet sources. Other sources to consider are SmartHistory (smarthistory.org), Google Art Project (https://www.google.com/culturalinstitute/beta/u/0/), official museum or gallery websites, etc. Make sure that your source is reliable and authoritative (no personal blogs, for example).
<
Three Print Sources: two books and one journal article
<
Print sources: You should reference at least two books and one journal article. Do an Internet search to find out the titles of books that might be useful to you, and then do a search of the catalogs of the Fullerton College library. You may also use the library at CSUF or public libraries to find out what books are available to you locally. Read the pertinent parts of those books. Take notes while reading, jotting down important points and interesting ideas.
<
You must read at least one journal article, as these usually contain the most current information on a topic. To locate journal articles, access Jstor (jstor.org) or GoogleScholar. Even though Jstor is a website, the articles located there are considered print sources because they were originally published in hard copy.
<
Please be aware that I will be checking to see that your sources are real and that your citations line up with what the source says.
<
Video Production
<
This is a practice in research, time management, flexibility, and self-discipline. Make sure to get started right away so that any editing can be completed early. . Students inevitably realize (often too late) that uploading and processing assignment , so it is ideal that you get everything done at least 24 hours before the due date. Remember that you will post a link to the assignment , not the file itself.
<
Grading
<
While your grade will depend on the final resulting Assignment , I will not be partial to those students who are experienced assignment editors. Instead, the focus is on quality content; I will be looking for a substantial amount of research (again, beyond Wikipedia). In addition, I will give consideration to those who obviously utilized their skills and creativity to the maximum.
